Consumption and exports will rise.

The Russian government approved a long-term strategy for the development of the grain complex until 2035, developed by the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia. In an optimistic scenario, by the indicated time Russia will increase grain production to reach 150.3 million tons per year (the growth will be about 33% if compared to 2018), and export will reach 63.6 million tons (+ 16%) by the end of the calendar year.

The stimulation of the grain industry, which is the basis of Russian agricultural exports, will help to augment food supplies abroad to as high as $45 billion over the next 6 years, and will also give a boost to the development of the related industries. At the same time, a high level of food security in the country remains the key goal to be achieved by fully satisfying the needs of processing enterprises and growing domestic consumption.

By 2035, grain consumption in Russia will have amounted to 86.6 million tons, out of which 52.3 million tons to be used in the production of animal feed and fodder, 15.2 million tons to be used for food purposes (production of flour and cereals), 12 million tons – to provide farmers with seed material, and 5.6 million tons to be used for other purposes of industrial grain processing.

On top of all the above, significant attention will be given to improving the quality of produced grain and its processed products. wheat market monitoring approaches for specific quality attributes and reduction of quarantine facilities are to be developed to increase the production of high-quality wheat. The strategy also plans to improve Russian phytosanitary requirements and product safety and quality requirements with regard to the standards of current and prospective trading partners of Russia in the global grain market.
