# Winter crops will occupy 19 mln. hectares in Russia

The tasks set, the process is on.

This fall, the sown area of winter crops in Russia would be about 19 million hectares, reported the First Deputy Minister of Agriculture of Russia Dzhambulat Khatuov during a meeting related to the sowing of winter crops for the harvest of 2021.

Dzhambulat Khatuov noted that the basis of the country’s crop industry is the production of cereal and leguminous crops, the share of which in the total sown areas exceeds 60%. In the total gross yield of grain, about 48% falls on winter crops. According to the forecast for the harvest of 2021, winter crops will be sown on an area of 18.8 million hectares, winter rape will take 372.5 thousand hectares, and winter camelina sativa (also known as winter false flex) will take 54.3 thousand hectares.

As of September 8, 2020, the sowing of winter crops completed on an area of 6.3 million hectares, which is 14.5% more compared to the same period of 2019.
