# Russian scientists developed a new method to forecast the soybean yield

The key to success lies in complex data.

The Far Eastern Research Institute of Agriculture and the Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences have created a method for early forecasting of soybean yield.

The new method is based on the data of long-term meteorological analysis and Earth remote sensing. With the obtained results, scientists are considering the possibility of creating an integrated information system for early forecasting of productivity in the region.

“Soybean is one of the key crops in world agriculture and the most significant crop for the Russian Far East. The sown area of ​​soybeans in the south of the Far East in recent years reached 60-80% of all arable land. At the same time, the growth of the export of soybeans requires a prompt and early forecast of the gross harvest at the level of both individual farms and the region as a whole,” said Tatyana Aseeva, Acting Director of the Far Eastern Research Institute of Agriculture.

The developed method is a universal one and may be applied to predict the yield of soybeans in all regions of Russia and has been already tested in several of them. The forecasted yield differed only by 5-12% of the real one depending on the region. The results correspond to the high accuracy of the model by world standards.
