The region needs more hectares of a protected ground.

The state program supporting greenhouse complexes in the Khabarovsk region will be launched again.

“The Interim Governor of the Khabarovsk region Mikhail Degtyarev resumed the state program providing support for investments in greenhouse vegetable growing. It will reimburse up to 50% of the cost of equipment purchased for greenhouses. Such a measure of support was previously provided only once back in 2017,” said Olga Kravchuk, First Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Trade, Food and Processing Industry of the Khabarovsk region. “By the end of the year, it’s planned to distribute 20 million rubles ($272.6 thousand). The main condition is that the equipment needs to be purchased this year.”

The Russian Government set a task for the regions to reach the average Russian level (87%) of self-sufficiency in vegetables by 2024. The Khabarovsk region currently provides only a third of the required volume of vegetables. The other part is imported from other regions and mainly from China and other countries. Therefore, the prices are highly dependent on fluctuations in the exchange rate and the situation at the borders. During the Covid-19 pandemic, there have already been supplying disruptions.

“To meet the needs of the residents in vegetables, it’s necessary to build about 30 hectares of winter greenhouses in the Khabarovsk region. Investors are interested in the development of greenhouse vegetable growing. Currently, three investment projects are being implemented in the region for the construction of greenhouse complexes. However, without federal support programs, we cannot achieve the average Russian self-sufficiency level in vegetables,” added Olga Kravchuk.
