Control over the movement of pesticides is needed more than ever.

Since this year, control over the circulation of pesticides and agrochemicals has returned to the jurisdiction of the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance (Rosselkhoznadzor).

Rosselkhoznadzor will control their import and compliance with the rules for their production, sale, storage, use, disposal, destruction, and burial.

Rosselkhoznadzor already had these duties until 2011. 14 thousand studies of pesticides, mineral fertilizers and plant products were carried out annually in its laboratories.

For example, in 2010, 36 thousand tons of pesticides and agrochemicals were checked. At the same time, the examination of 464 tons of pesticides and 3.5 thousand tons of agrochemicals turned out to be falsified.

After Rosselkhoznadzor was deprived of these powers, they weren’t transferred to anyone. As a result, the import on the borders wasn’t controlled at all. Neither the chemicals nor the used dosages were tested.
