Canadian company Northern Nutrients has opened a new trade route for the import of phosphorus fertilizers from China. The first vessel has already arrived at the port of Vancouver. The company says that this is the first shipment of its kind on the west coast. The new route is a response of Canadian distributors to the recent decision of the US Department of Commerce to impose countervailing duties on the phosphorus fertilizer import from Morocco and Russia. “The US will be trading at an artificially high price due to countervailing duties, which are now in force against 90% of global exports,” explains analyst Josh Linville. According to the statement of the expert, the US duties may force Canadian distributors to switch to products from China, Russia and Morocco. Northern Nutrients plans to receive a phosphorus fertilizer vessel every six to eight weeks since early fall.
