# Ragt and Bayer will develop new wheat hybrids

Publication Date: 20.05.2021, 18:00

The most widespread grain crop needs renewal.

Ragt and Bayer signed an agreement aimed at joint breeding of hybrid wheat varieties.

Wheat is currently the most farmed crop in the world. In the European Union alone, more than 25 million hectares are sown with wheat. This crop provides 20% of global protein consumption.

Top managers of Ragt and Bayer expect that due to Bayer’s leadership in crop protection and Ragt’s achievements in crop seed production, joint activity will be successful.

“Hybrid wheat let farmers cope with climate change while achieving higher yields,” said Bob Reiter, Head of Crop Research at Bayer.
