Farmers have no reason to be optimistic.

As the Ministry of Agriculture of the Stavropol region reports, the prices for mineral fertilizers sharply increased in May this year compared to the same month of 2020.

Ammonia nitrate raised in price by 24% to 18.550 thousand rubles per ton ($257), carbamide-ammoniac compound by 38% to 17.6 thousand rubles per ton (about $244), compound NPK fertilizer by 47% to 28.6 thousand rubles (about $400), and ammonium-phosphate-sulfate by 96% to 34.290 thousand rubles (approximately $475).

The plan for the accumulation of mineral fertilizers in the Stavropol region for 2021 is 245 thousand tons, 126 thousand tons of which were already purchased. They should be applied on an area of almost 6 million hectares, while currently, only 1.872 million hectares have been fertilized.
