# Ural Mining Metallurgical Company plans to produce ammonium sulfate

Publication Date: 09.07.2021, 20:00

Copper metallurgy has a secondary direction.

The General Director of Ural Mining Metallurgical Company (UMMC), Andrey Kozitsyn, and the Head of Ultramar, Andrey Bonch-Bruevich, have signed an agreement on joint implementation of a project to create ammonium sulfate production at the Sredneuralsk Copper Smelter (SUMZ, the asset of UMMC).

The estimated volume of investments is 5.7 billion rubles (approximately $76.8 million). The design and construction are planned to be completed within three years.

“The signed agreement demonstrates good inter-industry cooperation, which will be very effective and useful for both companies,” said Andrey Bonch-Bruevich.

The decision to produce ammonium sulfate at the SUMZ site is based on the optimal supply of raw materials since it’s planned to use 380 thousand tons of the company’s own sulfuric acid.

“Sulfuric acid available at SUMZ will be the source of raw materials. Thus, the environmental issue is solved and the Sverdlovsk region receives mineral fertilizers of own production,” Andrey Kozitsyn added.

SUMZ is totally expected to produce up to 500 thousand tons of ammonium sulfate per year.
