# Canada will accelerate the development of new wheat varieties

Huge funds will be allocated for research.

The Canadian Wheat Research Coalition, within the cooperation with the University of Alberta (an agreement between them was signed in May this year and will last for five years), intends to allocate $2 million for the development of new wheat varieties.

These funds will be used to finance researches to create promising red-grain varieties of wheat. The red-grain wheat will be distinguished by earlier maturity, shorter stems, and resistance to stripe rust and fusarium.

Since 2013, the University of Alberta has registered 14 new wheat varieties.
