# BHP Group plans to receive the first potassium chloride in 2027

The expensive large-scale project continues.

International giant BHP Group will invest $5.7 billion in its Jansen potash project (the Saskatchewan province, Canada). As of today, BHP Group has already spent almost $3 billion on the project.

The management of BHP Group expects the Jansen potash project to produce approximately 4.3 million tons of potassium chloride per year with an opportunity to increase the output in the future. Over the next six years, the company will continue the construction of an enterprise for the extraction of potassium salts. It will consist of an underground mine and surface infrastructure.

It should be commissioned in 2027, followed by two years of increasing production to the target level.

According to the forecast of BHP Group specialists, the growth in demand for potassium chloride will exceed the supply in the late 2020s — early 2030s.
