# Russian farmers purchased 4.7 million tons of mineral fertilizers in 2021

The year results are impressive.

The Russian Fertilizer Producers Association (RFPA) reports that in 2021 Russian agriculture increased the purchase of domestically produced mineral fertilizers by almost 20% to 4.7 million tons.

Taking into account the accumulated 0.3 million tons, the total volume of acquired fertilizers amounted to 5 million tons. Thus, the plan for 2021 for the purchase of mineral fertilizers, revised by the Russian Ministry of Agriculture from 3.8 to 4.5 million tons, was exceeded.

The total output of mineral fertilizers by the RFPA members increased by 5% to 54.7 million tons.

“The RFPA members have beaten the target of providing mineral fertilizers to our priority Russian market. Even though many countries are already facing shortages, and foreign farmers are challenging the sharp rise in prices for fertilizers, there is no shortage in Russia, and domestic producers fixed their prices until the end of May 2022,” said the President of the Russian Fertilizer Producers Association Andrey Guryev. “The producers are currently accumulating fertilizers in the regions and planning their subsequent delivery to the fields before spring sowing. As in previous years, Russian manufacturers will fully meet the demand of the domestic agro-industrial complex for 2022 of almost 5 million tons.”

By mid-January of this year, farmers purchased over 0.7 million tons of mineral fertilizers, which is 1.6 times more than in the same period last year.

To alleviate the concerns of farmers regarding the availability of mineral fertilizers for spring sowing, the government introduced temporary export quotas from December 1, 2021, to May 31, 2022, which won’t lead to a decrease in the loading capacity of Russian chemical enterprises.
