In 2021, 921.4 thousand tons of buckwheat were harvested in Russia, which is 3.2% more than a year before. According to the statement of the press-service of the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia, in 2022, sown areas for buckwheat should increase by 5.5% to 1.032 million hectares. The leaders among the regions of Russia in terms of buckwheat harvesting are the Altai, Bashkortostan, Kursk, Voronezh and Oryol regions. Currently, buckwheat harvests fully meet the domestic demand for it. The Ministry of Agriculture of Russia aims at expanding the sown area, using modern technologies, increasing the volume of mineral fertilizers and using high-yielding varieties of this crop.
