The workers want to change the remuneration system.

Birutė Daškevičienė, chairwoman of Achema’s trade union, reports that employees of the Lithuanian nitrogen fertilizer producer have begun an indefinite strike.

According to her statement, about half of the employees of Achema (about 600 people) intend to take part in the strike. Achema CEO Ramūnas Miliauskas, in turn, assured that the company would continue to operate during the strike.

The employees have got angry because of the new remuneration system, which was adopted post factum. Due to the new rules, many employees will receive 100 euros less than usual in January 2022. Moreover, the company’s management refused to sign a collective agreement and didn’t pay bonuses for 2021.

Achema is the only plant in the Baltics that produces nitrogen fertilizers, such as carbamide and ammonium and calcium ammonium nitrate.
