# Fertilizers from Belarus may be delivered by Russian railways

Sanctions are not the end of the world.

Transportation of mineral fertilizers from Belarus by Russian railways should begin this year, said Deputy Minister of Transport of Russia Dmitry Zverev.

“On February 20, 2020, Belarus signed an agreement for transportation of its oil cargo by railways and seaports of Russia. This year, the list of transported cargos will be expanded with mineral fertilizers as well,” said Dmitry Zverev. “This agreement allowed to increase the loading of railways and seaports in 2021 by 2.149 million tons each. These export shipments are additional income for our both railway and seaport industries.”

Last year, the US authorities imposed sanctions against Belaruskali, following which in February 2022, the transit of potassium chloride produced by the plant through Lithuanian railways was stopped. Then Ukraine banned the transportation of potassium chloride from Belarus through its territory as well.

However, on February 17, 2022, Prime Minister of Belarus Roman Golovchenko claimed that supplies of potassium fertilizers through Ukraine continue and that they’re holding negotiations to deliver fertilizers through the territory of Russia.
