# Ukraine may face a pesticide collapse

Publication Date: 08.04.2022, 16:00

A shortage will cause a drop in the harvest.

The shortage of plant protection products (pesticides) in Ukraine can lead to the loss of 30% of the future crop yield.

Sergei Dobrogorsky, Head of Agriproduction at Myronivsky Hliboproduct, has reported that their company is provided with plant protection products only by 40%. Vladimir Osadchiy, the head of the Bazys agricultural firm, has admitted that there are no pesticides for May-June at all.

Lidia Ozerova, the representative of Syngenta, said that without herbicides crop losses will be up to 30%.

“The lack of fungicides will critically impact grain quality of winter crops and oiliness of sunflower, which may lead to the loss of 10-15% of the yield,” Lidia Ozerova added.

Fertilizer Daily forecasts that by the end of 2022, the crop yield in Ukraine may fall by 35-40% not only due to the lack of pesticides but also mineral fertilizers.
