The cultivation area will exceed 630 hectares.

For the first time in eight years, rice sowing started in Crimea. This year, rice fields will occupy over 630 hectares, said Alime Zaredinova, Acting Minister of Agriculture of Crimea.

“After water exclusion in the North Crimean Canal, 38 farms stopped cultivating this crop and switched to growing drought-resistant crops. The largest areas of rice were in the Krasnoperekopsky region. Rice growers are currently setting up reclamation systems and next year farmers plan to significantly increase rice plantings,” said Alime Zaredinova.

The climate in Crimea is favorable for rice cultivation. Eight years ago, rice was grown there on 13.5 thousand hectares.
