The measure may come into force in August.

The Committee on Customs Tariff Regulations of Russia approved the introduction of quotas for the export of sulfur as a protective measure for domestic agriculture. They’re proposed to be installed from August 10 to December 31, 2022 in the amount of 1.1 million tons.

“80% of sulfur in industry goes to the production of sulfuric acid. In turn, 78% of sulfuric acid is used for the manufacture of mineral fertilizers. To control prices for this raw material, it was proposed to limit the export of sulfur in the amount of 1.1 million tons until the end of 2022 and fix the sales prices for sulfur for the production of mineral fertilizers at a level no higher than the average prices prevailing in May-July 2021, as it was done with prices for mineral fertilizers,” said Vitaly Korolev, Deputy Head of the Federal Antimonopoly Service.
