# The European Commission allowed Russian fertilizer shipments

Their shortage cleared the minds of foreign officials.

The European Commission has issued a clarification allowing European companies to provide transportation and insurance services for mineral fertilizers from Russia to third countries.

“The European Union intends to take the food and energy security of third countries out of its sanctions,” the Commission said in its statement.

As follows from the document, the transfer to third countries of several goods (including mineral fertilizers) should be allowed “to combat food and energy insecurity throughout the world” and “to avoid any potential negative consequences”.

“Perhaps the authorities of the European Union took such a step under the influence of the shortage and at the same time the high cost of mineral fertilizers on its market. It will not be a surprise if mineral fertilizers for the needs of European farmers are bought in Russia through third countries,” commented the information and analytical service of Fertilizer Daily.
