# Crops of wheat and barley may be reduced in Ukraine

A bunch of difficulties blocked the way.

Sowings of winter wheat and barley in Ukraine may be reduced by 20-30%, said the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Mykola Solskyi.

According to his statement, last year farmers and agricultural enterprises in Ukraine sowed 5 million hectares of winter wheat. In the current year — 4 million hectares are planned. The crops of winter barley will decrease from 800 thousand hectares in 2021 to 500 thousand hectares in 2022.

As a result, the area under crops of winter wheat may decrease by 20% and barley — by 30%. As reasons for their reduction, Mykola Solskyi named the high cost of nitrogen fertilizers and logistics, as well as unfavorable weather.
