The forecasts are not optimistic.

In the 2022-2023 agricultural year, the global rice harvest may decline by 2.1% to 505 million tons, the International Grains Council predicts.

According to the estimates of its specialists, the volume of world trade in rice will decrease by 4% to 49 million tons, its carryover stock balances will decrease by 5.1% to 169 million tons.

Global rice consumption in the 2022-2023 agricultural year may decrease by 1.1% to 520 million tons, mainly due to falling demand for it in India and China.
