Lithuanian producer of nitrogen fertilizers, Achema, has partially restarted its production of nitrogen fertilizers due to a decrease in natural gas prices. In September this year, Achema stopped operations due to the rise in the price of natural gas, which made the production of nitrogen fertilizers unprofitable. Currently, only one ammonia and one carbamide workshops have been relaunched, said Birutė Daškevičienė, Chairman of the Achema trade union. The rest of the production facilities are expected to resume work. Achema is the only company in Lithuania that produces nitrogen fertilizers – carbamide, ammonium and calcium ammonium nitrate. At the same time, it’s the largest consumer of natural gas in the country.
