# Uralchem will ship free fertilizers to Malawi

Uralchem ​​and Uralkali have received permission to load a charitable batch of mineral fertilizers onto a vessel of the UN World Food Programme. A batch of 20 thousand tons of complex fertilizers will be sent via Mozambique to Malawi within a week, starting from November 21, 2022.

“We would like to thank the leadership of the UN and WFP, in particular, WFP Executive Director David Beasley, for their continued work to ensure that the food crisis in developing countries doesn’t worsen due to lack of fertilizers. We would also like to express our gratitude to the Netherlands, Mozambique, and Malawi governments for their cooperation. Only the joint efforts of public organizations, government agencies, producers and exporters of mineral fertilizers, logistics companies, financial institutions, and local authorities will be able to prevent a catastrophe and ensure stable food supplies to the regions most in need. Fertilizers are the basis for sustainable growth and food security,” the Uralchem press-release says.

The companies expect the successful delivery of their products to Malawi and confirm their intention to provide 260 thousand tons of complex fertilizers to developing countries pro bono. They will also defray the cost of loading, transporting, and insuring fertilizers. The first humanitarian batch of complex fertilizers has already arrived in Togo, from where the products will be delivered to end-users in Burkina Faso.

“As the world’s leading fertilizer producers, Uralchem ​​and Uralkali are confident that now is the moment when all parties involved in solving the problem of food security need to unite. Access to fertilizers shouldn’t depend on politics. Instead, we should work closely together to keep the food supply going. We firmly believe in food security as one of the key human rights and will make every effort to ensure the timely delivery and application of our fertilizers, which would allow the farmers of Malawi to receive a rich harvest next spring,” said Dmitry Konyaev, CEO of Uralchem.
