Business development will be accelerated.

Israeli startup Equinom has received a $35 million tranche from a consortium of investors represented by Synthesis Capital, Praesidium, Bunge Ventures, BayWa, CPT Capital, Fortissimo and Phoenix. As a result, the total amount of investments provided by investors to Equinom today exceeds $71 million.

Equinom breeds low-maintenance crop varieties, including peas and soybeans. To do this, Equinom uses its own Manna technology platform, which applies various algorithms to identify biochemical and genomic traits that allow breeding varieties with given properties. Equinom will use the received funding for business development.

“Today’s food system requires significant transformation to slow climate change and feed a growing population expected to reach 10 billion people by 2050,” said Costa Yiannoulis, co-founder of Synthesis Capital. “Equinom’s high protein varieties could be a key tool in tackling this problem.”
