# Kemerovo Azot caused damage to the environment estimated at $557 million

The Federal Security Service of Russia (FSB) for Kuzbass (Kemerovo region) has established that Kemerovo Azot violated the rules for storing chemical waste.

According to the representative of FSB, the head of one of Kemerovo Azot’s departments is considered guilty of the violation. It was on her behalf that the employees took out the waste of the fourth hazard class to a site not intended for their storage. This caused soil pollution.

The specialists of the Federal Natural Resources Agency of Russia (Rosprirodnadzor) estimated the environmental damage at 45 million rubles (approximately $557 million).

Kemerovo Azot paid a fine of 50 thousand rubles (about $620) and compensated for the damage caused to the environment.
