Lincoln-based AgTech firm to expand market presence and employment following investment round.

Sentinel Fertigation, a Lincoln-based agricultural technology company, announced on Monday that it has successfully raised $2.5 million in a Seed investment round. Founded by Jackson Stansell during his graduate studies at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, the company specializes in helping farmers optimize nitrogen fertilizer usage through its N-Time nitrogen management software.

The investment round was spearheaded by Homegrown Capital of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Grit Road Partners of Omaha; and Lincoln’s Invest Nebraska. Other participants included Proven Ventures, Nebraska Angels, AgVentures Alliance, Black Hills Regional Angel Fund, Breakthrough 307, AgLaunch Farmers Innovation Fund I, and Agri-Inject. Invest Nebraska and several other investors were part of a prior $1.2 million investment in Sentinel Fertigation last year.

Sentinel Fertigation plans to allocate the new capital towards expanding the market reach of its N-Time software and increasing its workforce. “The seed funding will enable us to enhance N-Time’s capabilities, expand our Sentry Network of agronomic advisers, and extend the benefits of N-Time to a greater number of farmers,” stated Stansell.

The company reported that farmers utilizing the N-Time software saved an average of $40 per acre on nitrogen costs and observed a 23% increase in yield per pound of applied nitrogen. Moreover, 83% of the farmers using the software during the 2022 growing season reported increased profitability compared to historical practices.

Ben Williamson, managing director of both Invest Nebraska and Grit Road Partners, remarked on the company’s growth: “It’s encouraging to see Sentinel transition from an academic solution to a commercial product that has proven its efficacy over two growing seasons. We look forward to continued collaboration as the company gains momentum with this significant round of capital.”
