Fertiglobe facility aims to capture 10 tonnes of carbon per day with CycloneCC unit

The Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) plans to install a Carbon Clean carbon-capture unit at a nitrogen fertilizer facility owned by Fertiglobe, UK-based Carbon Clean announced on Tuesday.

The CycloneCC mobile unit, which is capable of capturing 10 tonnes of carbon per day, is currently under construction in the UAE and will be put to work at Fertiglobe’s plant in the Ruwais Industrial Complex next month.

Fertiglobe, the world’s largest maritime exporter of urea and ammonia, was formed in 2019 as a joint venture between ADNOC and the chemical company OCI. Its Fertil plant in the UAE has an annual production capacity of 1.2 million tonnes of ammonia and 2.1 million tonnes of urea.

Carbon Clean’s chairman and chief executive, Aniruddha Sharma, was quoted in a press release as saying: ‘We are moving a step closer to achieving full commercialization of this modular solution, which will play a vital role in decarbonizing heavy industries and achieving net-zero targets’.

If the pilot deployment is successful, more carbon-capture units will be installed at other ADNOC and Fertiglobe facilities.
