INPEX, Air Liquide, LSB Industries, and Vopak Moda Houston intend to develop project on the Houston Ship Channel.

INPEX Corp., Air Liquide Group, LSB Industries Inc., and Vopak Moda Houston LLC have announced that they plan to develop a large-scale, low-carbon ammonia production and export project on the Houston Ship Channel, one of the world’s busiest seaports.

The companies said on October 3 that if the venture goes ahead, they will aim to produce more than 1.1 million tonnes of low-carbon ammonia per annum by the end of 2027. They added that there may subsequently be scope for further expansion.

The firms said that earlier this year they conducted a feasibility study for the project, pointing out that that their favored site would allow them to take full advantage of existing infrastructure assets. They noted that Vopak Moda has invested in liquid-storage and handling infrastructure at the location, and that it operates an ammonia terminal which includes a new dock with several deep-sea berths. The project will also have access to utilities and several pipelines.
