# Chile bans 14 groups of pesticides

The Agricultural and Livestock Service says it is wants to promote the use of environmentally friendly agrochemicals.

The Chilean Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG) has banned 14 groups of pesticides that it deems to be highly dangerous to humans, animals, and the environment.

The decision, which will affect as many as 151 commercial brands, prohibits the importation, production, distribution, sale, possession, and use of substances such as binapacryl, captafol, chlorobenzilate, and ethylene dichloride.

The SAG also introduced new regulations designed to promote the use of environmentally friendly pesticides, particularly those formulated with natural extracts and bio-inputs.

The organization’s director, José Guajardo Reyes, said the initiative represents an important step towards a more sustainable agricultural industry.
