# Pupuk Kaltim to build fertilizer factory in West Papua

The Indonesian company says the facility will meet 70-80% of the country's demand for fertilizers.

Indonesia’s Pupuk Kaltim is planning to build a new fertilizer factory in Fakfak, West Papua, as a means of enhancing the country’s food security, local media reported on October 16.

The state-owned company’s managing director, Budi Wahju Soesilo, said that the facility will be capable of producing 1.15 million tonnes of urea and 825,000 tonnes of ammonia per year.

According to the IDX news site, the plant, once fully operational, is expected to meet between 70% and 80% of Indonesia’s demand for those fertilizers. It is scheduled to come online sometime in 2027.
