Publication Date: 19.10.2023, 14:00

The companies signed a memorandum of understanding at an event in Japan.

Proman announced on Tuesday that it has signed a memorandum of understanding with Mitsubishi Corporation affirming the companies’ interest in building a large ultra-low-carbon ammonia facility in Louisiana.

The Swiss firm said that the proposed plant would employ state-of-the-art carbon capture and sequestration technology to produce approximately 1.2 million tonnes of clean ammonia per year.

Proman added that the facility would be located on its existing site in Lake Charles, next to the natural gas to methanol plant that it is developing.

The signing ceremony between Proman and Mitsubishi Corporation took place at the Third International Conference on Fuel Ammonia, which was organized by Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.

Proman indicated that most of the ammonia produced at the facility would be exported to Japan, which is pursuing a national decarbonization strategy.
