Between January and September, the PRC exported 22.67 million tonnes of fertilizers.

China exported 22.67 million tonnes of fertilizers between January and September, which represented a 31.6% year-over-year increase, the country’s state-run Xinhua news agency reported on Friday, citing data from the General Administration of Customs.

Xinhua said that just last month China exported 3.77 million tonnes of fertilizers, which was 20.3% more than in September 2022.

The news agency noted that urea exports in particular have seen robust growth. It said that in the first three quarters of 2023 they rose by 80% year over year, reaching 2.83 million tonnes, while in September 2023 they shot up by 241.7% year over year.

China is the world’s largest producer of urea, accounting for approximately a third of global supplies of nitrogenous fertilizers.
