Yara International announced on Monday that it has signed a binding commercial agreement with Northern Lights, a carbon dioxide transport and storage supplier. The Norwegian chemical producer said the deal will facilitate the cross-border transportation and storage of C02 – enabling it to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from its Yara Sluiskil ammonia plant by 800,000 tons per year. Yara explained that Northern Lights will ship its liquefied carbon dioxide from the Netherlands to a permanent storage location on the Norwegian continental shelf, 2.6 kilometres below the seabed.
