The Kenyan president’s office has announced that the country’s government has raised its budget for fertilizer subsidies, and that, as a result, food production could be set to increase. It said in a press release that President William Ruto signed a bill into law on Thursday which will ensure that an extra $53.96mn (8.25bn Kenyan shillings) is spent on helping farmers to purchase fertilizers. The president’s office added that, in order to keep maize prices stable and reduce losses, $13.7mn (2.1bn Kenyan shillings) has been set aside for post-harvest management. It also noted that $26.1mn (4bn Kenyan shillings) will be spent on revitalizing the country’s coffee industry.
