The new facility represents a joint venture between OCP and the Rwandan government.

Rwanda on Wednesday opened a facility capable of blending 100,000 tonnes of fertilizer annually, the country’s agriculture ministry said in a news release.

The plant, which is located in the Bugesera Special Economic Zone, 50 kilometers south of Kigali, is the product of a joint venture between Morocco’s OCP and the Rwandan government.

The ministry said that the facility will support the agricultural sector by importing fertilizers and blending them in ratios that suit the country’s soil and crop preferences.

According to local media, the fertilizers will be supplied by OCP.

The ministry’s news release stated that Rwanda currently requires 85,000 tonnes of fertilizer per year, and that the facility will therefore also target the regional market.
