Governor Radda spearheads agricultural initiative to boost food security and local economy.

Nigeria’s Katsina State Governor Malam Dikko Umar Radda has officially launched the first phase of an agricultural empowerment initiative aimed at supporting 2,040 farmers during the dry season. The program’s inauguration at the Gwaigwaye irrigation site in Dikke ward, Funtua local government, marks a significant step towards enhancing food security and promoting agricultural practices across the state’s 34 local government districts.

Governor Radda’s initiative aims to support agricultural advancement by providing accessible dry season inputs to the selected farmers. The program’s strategic distribution of seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides, detailed by Commissioner for Agriculture Professor Ahmed Mohammed Bakori, is designed to reduce poverty, create jobs, and increase the state’s revenue.

In addition to material support, the governor emphasized the importance of modern farming techniques and announced the planned organization of training sessions along with the deployment of extension agents. These efforts aim to ensure farmers achieve optimal agricultural outcomes.

The initiative is supported by significant investments in irrigation infrastructure, including the installation of 204 tube wells and the integration of solar-powered water pumping machines across various locations, enhancing the state’s agricultural capacity and resource management. As the program unfolds, local government chairmen are encouraged to replicate this initiative.
