CNH said that through its investment arm, CNH Ventures, it has invested in the Canadian start-up Nature's Net Wrap.

CNH announced on Tuesday that, through its investment arm CNH Ventures, it has invested in the Canadian start-up Nature’s Net Wrap, which is developing compostable net wrapping for bales.

CNH, a UK-headquartered maker of agricultural and construction equipment, said that it wants to help expedite the elimination of waste from the crop collection and storage process.

CNH noted that a shift to compostable net wrapping would reduce landfill use, bring down haulage and disposal costs, eliminate soil contamination, improve animal safety, and reduce the risk of water contamination, resulting in a reduction of approximately 2.5 million tonnes of plastic waste each year.

The company said that, in contrast to the materials currently used for wrapping bales, the biopolymer developed by Nature’s Net Wrap is made from renewable resources and can either be composted or left to break down naturally in the soil.

CNH said that its investment is supporting the testing and validation of the product, which it expects to launch sometime this year. It did not disclose any additional information about the terms of the deal.
