# Uralchem potassium donation arrives in Nigeria

The company said it sent 34,000 tonnes of potassium to Nigeria, in its latest humanitarian aid shipment.

Uralchem Group said on Wednesday that a 34,000-tonne potassium donation has arrived at the Nigerian port of Onne, and that work was underway to unload it.

The company noted that this was the fifth humanitarian delivery it has made. It said that, since the end of 2022, it has sent 134,000 tonnes of fertilizer to Africa free of charge; most of this has been shipped with the assistance of the UN World Food Program.

Uralchem previously agreed to donate 262,000 tonnes of fertilizer to developing countries after the goods got stuck at European ports following the EU’s decision in March 2022 to place sanctions on its then-majority shareholder, Dmitry Mazepin. It has since committed to sending 300,000 tonnes of aid.

Uralchem’s CEO, Dmitry Konyaev, commented that “As one of the world’s largest producers of mineral fertilizers . . . we are doing everything we can to prevent crop failures in countries facing food shortages. We are pleased to see our humanitarian shipment reach Nigeria and expect that local farmers will soon be using the fertilizers in the most efficient way so as to secure greater yields.”
