# Thyssenkrupp Uhde to revamp Egyptian ammonia plant

Thyssenkrupp Uhde said that the recommissioned Talkha ammonia plant will help to drive the growth of Egypt's agricultural sector.

Thyssenkrupp Uhde announced on Thursday that it has signed a contract with the Delta Company for Fertilizer and Chemical Industries to recommission an ammonia complex in the Egyptian city of Talkha. Delta, which is based in Egypt, focuses primarily on sustainable, environmentally friendly projects in the Arab fertilizer industry.

Thyssenkrupp Uhde, which is responsible for the front-end-engineering-design (FEED), said it will provide engineering solutions for the revamp of the ammonia plant and the ammonia offsite and central utility units. The company added that it will also supply its uhde ammonia technology for the production of ammonia and urea.

The firm noted that its ‘world-leading’ uhde ammonia technology has been successfully installed in more than 120 plants worldwide. Together with the FEED solution, it said, the technology will allow the plant to be re-commissioned after a three-year shutdown, while at the same time increasing the plant’s capacity from 1275 to 1400 tonnes of ammonia per day.

Thomas Kufahl, the CEO of thyssenkrupp Uhde Egypt, commented: “We are very proud to have been selected as the partner to execute this project and enable the re-commissioning of the ammonia plant together with a capacity increase. Our proven uhde ammonia technology and our innovative engineering solutions guarantee the production of high-quality ammonia and urea worldwide.”

Thyssenkrupp Uhde added that the project aligns with the Egyptian government’s strategic goals and will facilitate the growth of Egypt’s agricultural sector.
