The Swedish agricultural cooperative Lantmännen announced on Friday that it plans to build a $48.2mn grain storage facility in the town of Uddevalla. The company said it will be the largest project of its kind that Lantmännen has undertaken since the 1980s. The company said that work on the facility, which will consist of 21 silos with two dryers for an estimated turnover of up to 100,000 tonnes of grain per year, will begin this spring and should be completed by the 2026 harvest. Lantmännen’s CEO, Magnus Kagevik, commented that: “Lantmännen’s expertise and financial capacity enables this type of significant investment in Swedish agriculture and food production. At the same time, the investment has the potential to become a key component in both a developed Swedish food preparedness and for increased export opportunities of Swedish grain.” Lantmännen added that it has signed an agreement with the local grain storage and handling equipment supplier Tornum, which it said has broad experience of investments in grain facilities, both in Sweden and internationally.
