# Phosagro opens new chemical complex in Leningrad region

Phosagro said that fertilizer production at the new site will exceed one million tonnes per year.

Russia’s Phosagro has opened a new chemical complex in the town of Volkhov, in the Leningrad region, the TASS news agency reported on Tuesday.

The company invested over 34 billion rubles ($375mn) in the project, and expects mineral fertilizer production at the recommissioned site to exceed one million tonnes per year.

In addition to manufacturing monoammonium phosphate (MAP), TASS wrote that the new complex will produce highly pure, water-soluble ammophos, which is in demand in drip irrigation, hydroponic setups, and greenhouse farming systems.

According to Phosagro’s CEO, Mikhail Rybnikov, the company this year plans to produce 11.5 million tonnes of fertilizer, which would represent a 2% increase on 2023’s output.
