# Topsoe electrolyzer plant receives environmental permit

Publication Date: 07.03.2024, 12:00

Topsoe's electrolyzer factory is scheduled to begin operating in 2024.

Topsoe announced on Wednesday that it has obtained an important environmental permit from the Danish Environmental Agency, which certifies that its electrolyzer factory adheres to both Danish and EU environmental regulations and standards.

The company, a global leader in carbon emission reduction technologies, noted that it has installed the best available technical solutions, introduced emission cleaning systems, instituted proper waste management plans, and is highly efficient in its use of water and power. It said the environmental permit allows the factory to enter into the commissioning stage, and for equipment to be powered up.

Kim Hedegaard, the CEO of Power-to-X at Topsoe, said: “We are very satisfied with this stamp of approval from the Danish Environmental Agency. The factory, which will produce SOEC electrolysis units will mean a solid contribution to the green hydrogen economy, and this permit confirms that we’re on track building a factory adhering to all appropriate regulatory and sustainability standards.”

Topsoe said that the new electrolyser factory is scheduled to begin operating later this year. The company on Monday announced record financial results for 2023, and said that it is expecting to see “double digit growth” in its technology businesses in 2024.
