# Tatarstan dispatches first wheat shipment to China

Publication Date: 16.08.2024, 14:00

As part of a growing agricultural trade, Tatarstan has initiated wheat exports to China under new agreements.

On August 13, 2024, Tatarstan sent its inaugural train loaded with wheat to China, marking a significant step in agricultural trade between the regions. The train carried 76 containers containing 1,991 tons of wheat. This export was facilitated by a recent agreement on phytosanitary requirements signed between the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation and China’s General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection, and Quarantine.

Additionally, as of August 14, Tatarstan has exported 4,200 tons of barley to China in 142 containers, which represents a 40% increase over the same period last year. This barley shipment, along with the wheat, underwent rigorous quality checks. Samples were analyzed by the Quality Assessment Center for Grain under the Rosselkhoznadzor in Tatarstan to ensure compliance with the destination country’s phytosanitary standards.

Throughout the year, Tatarstan’s branch of Rosselkhoznadzor has processed exports totaling 73,400 tons of grain and grain products, underscoring the region’s growing role in the global grain market.
