New digital solution and strategic partnership with Wabash Valley Resources aim to advance clean ammonia production and CO2 sequestration.

One of the leading energy technology companies, Baker Hughes, has launched CarbonEdge, a comprehensive digital platform designed to optimize carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) operations. Announced in September 2024, CarbonEdge is engineered to enhance operational efficiency, mitigate risks, and streamline regulatory reporting across the CCUS value chain.

CarbonEdge integrates real-time data monitoring and alerts for CO2 flows—from capture and compression to pipeline transport and subsurface storage. This solution is part of Baker Hughes’ Climate Technology Solutions portfolio, which also includes advanced modeling tools for subsurface characterization and monitoring.

Concurrently, Baker Hughes has entered into a significant agreement with Wabash Valley Resources (WVR), a U.S. pioneer in low-carbon ammonia fertilizer production. This collaboration will see Baker Hughes supplying technology and services to support WVR’s innovative project in Indiana—the state’s first zero-carbon-capable ammonia fertilizer plant.

The partnership is set to leverage CarbonEdge for comprehensive measurement, monitoring, and verification of CO2, ensuring precise operational data and regulatory compliance. WVR’s project, which repurposes an existing gasification plant, aims to capture 1.65 million tons of CO2 annually, significantly contributing to sustainable agriculture and local economic development.
