# Two people killed and several injured during a post-election looting of fertilizer in Ghana

Supporters of the National Democratic Congress stormed a warehouse containing fertilizer bought by a New Patriotic Party candidate for local farmers, leading to a violent clash.

Two individuals lost their lives in a violent clash following a looting incident in Akomadan, Ghana, highlighting a surge of post-election unrest in the region. The confrontation took place on the morning of December 9, 2024, in the Offinso North constituency, Ashanti Region, and also resulted in several injuries.

Eyewitness reports indicate that the violence began when a group of youths, believed to be supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), raided a warehouse at a cocoa station in Akomadan. The warehouse contained fertilizer stocks purchased by Dr. Fred Kyei Asamoah, a New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate, intended for distribution among local farmers, predominantly to NPP affiliates.

The NDC group attempted to seize the fertilizer, claiming control, which led to a violent confrontation with NPP members trying to protect the stockpile. The escalation resulted in the fatal beating of one individual, whose brother retaliated by stabbing two individuals, inflicting severe wounds. The victims were immediately transported to the A.M.E. Zion Hospital at Akomadan Afrancho; however, one succumbed to their injuries.

Police intervention faced initial resistance. Additional forces from Offinso were eventually required to manage the situation through the deployment of warning shots and tear gas.

This looting incident forms part of a broader wave of violence, looting, and vandalism following the recent elections, impacting various parts of Ghana. Further disturbances were reported in Tarkwa Nsueam, where local youth, led by an Assembly member, threatened workers at a community mining site.
