# Uralchem hands over 55,000 tonnes of humanitarian fertilizer to Sri Lanka

The fertilizer, shipped from an EU port and arrived in Colombo on December 12, 2024, is part of a series of donations totaling 190,000 tonnes to various developing nations since late 2022.

Uralchem Group has delivered 55,000 tonnes of potash fertilizer to Sri Lanka. The handover occurred during an official ceremony in Colombo on December 12, 2024, marking the continuation of Uralchem’s commitment to supporting nations confronted with potential food crises. The event was attended by Sri Lanka’s Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Kuragamage Don Lalkantha, the Russian Ambassador to Sri Lanka and the Maldives, Mr. Levan Dzhagaryan, and representatives from the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) and Uralchem Group.

This shipment, which embarked from an EU port in mid-October, was warmly received at the Port of Colombo where it is currently being unloaded. This delivery is part of a larger initiative by Uralchem Group, which has already contributed approximately 190,000 tonnes of free fertilizers to various developing countries since late 2022, with logistics often coordinated by the WFP.

Dmitry Konyaev, CEO of Uralchem JSC, emphasized the critical role of mineral fertilizers in enhancing agricultural productivity. “Mineral fertilizers are essential for healthy plant growth, leading to higher yields and a more stable food supply,” said Konyaev. “As a leading global producer, Uralchem is dedicated to ensuring food accessibility and is proud to assist Sri Lanka’s agricultural sector and enhance the livelihoods of its farming community.”

Uralchem Group, which includes Uralchem, Uralkali, and TOAZ, among its key assets, is a global leader in the production and export of mineral fertilizers and chemical products. It boasts a production capacity of roughly 25 million tonnes annually and employs about 38,000 people.
