The new initiative significantly reduces the carbon footprint of these fertilizers by up to 90%, compared to traditional products, through the use of power-to-heat technology and renewable energy sources.

K+S has launched a new line of CO₂-reduced potassium and magnesium fertilizers, branded as C:LIGHT. The new product range complements the company’s efforts to promote more climate-friendly agricultural practices as the company strives to enhance its sustainability practices and contribute to the decarbonization of the agriculture sector. The C:LIGHT product line is designed to reduce the carbon footprint of these essential fertilizers by up to 90% compared to traditional K+S products, leveraging innovative power-to-heat technology.

The development of C:LIGHT involves the use of electricity from renewable energy sources, particularly in the production of steam required for fertilizer manufacturing. This shift from natural gas to renewable sources is central to the production process at the K+S facilities in Neuhof-Ellers, Zielitz, and Werra. These sites have implemented newly constructed power-to-heat boilers that significantly decrease CO₂ emissions.

According to the company, the demand for CO₂-reduced fertilizers is growing, extending well beyond Germany. Initial shipments of Korn-KALI C:LIGHT have already been completed successfully. The company plans to expand the C:LIGHT product range under its climate-friendly umbrella brand and continues to focus on reducing environmental impacts across its operations.
