# TOYO and Wuhuan Engineering collaborate on Angola’s first urea fertilizer plant

This facility, to be located in the Soyo region of Zaire Province, will have a capacity of 4,000 tons per day, making it one of the largest urea plants globally.

Toyo Engineering (TOYO) has secured a contract to supply its proprietary urea technology to Amufert, a joint venture fertilizer company in Angola. The agreement paves the way for the construction of one of the world’s largest plants in the Soyo region of Zaire Province, Angola, capable of producing 4,000 tons of urea daily.

This plant is set to be the first of its kind in Angola, addressing the country’s recent upsurge in natural gas production. It promises to eliminate the need for imported urea fertilizer by enabling 100% domestic production, thereby enhancing regional food security through self-sufficiency and export capabilities. Moreover, the initiative is expected to valorize Angola’s natural gas resources, balance trade through exports, generate jobs, and diversify the nation’s industrial landscape.

TOYO’s responsibilities within this project include licensing, basic engineering design, and supplying some proprietary equipment and technical services. The company will integrate its ACES21 urea synthesis and granulation technologies to ensure cost-effective construction and optimized operational conditions. Wuhuan Engineering will manage the overall design, procurement, and construction of the fertilizer plant, including the ammonia production units.

TOYO boasts a robust track record, having implemented its urea technology in over 100 projects globally, including several in Africa. Its previous engagements include two urea plants for Indorama Eleme Fertilizer & Chemicals Limited in Nigeria, completed in 2016 and 2021, with a third currently underway.

The collaboration with Wuhuan, especially their past successful projects in Indonesia for PT Petrokimia Gresik and PT Pupuk Sriwidjaja Palembang in 2015 and 2023, respectively, underscored TOYO’s capability in delivering large-scale urea projects, which was crucial in securing the new contract.
