A California startup revolutionizing nitrogen fertilizer production, Nitricity, announced new $10 million funding to construct an innovative organic fertilizer facility in Delhi, California. This funding round includes contributions from Elemental Impact and Trellis Climate, focusing on a facility that aims to boost local production and reduce reliance on imported nitrogen fertilizers.

Slated to begin operations in 2026, the facility’s production output has already been pre-sold through 2028 via binding offtake agreements with local organic farmers. Positioned in Merced County, the project is anticipated to generate approximately 20 new jobs in various roles, including fabrication, deployment, and maintenance.

Nicolas Pinkowski, CEO of Nitricity, expressed pride in the project’s scope and its alignment with local needs: “We are thrilled to expand our production capacity with a product that not only supports California growers but is also derived from local resources. This initiative is a significant step towards self-sufficiency in nitrogen production, providing an organic alternative that enhances the economic and environmental well-being of the community.”

The planned facility will utilize recycled almond shells and renewable energy sources to produce Nitricity’s flagship organic nitrogen fertilizer. This sustainable product promises to be pathogen-free, odor-free, and suitable for direct application through irrigation systems, adhering to strict organic standards.
