FMC Corporation has secured its first regulatory approval in Brazil for a pheromone-based crop protection product targeting fall armyworm (*Spodoptera frugiperda*). The product, branded as Sofero Fall, represents the initial market entry under the company’s new Sofero pheromone platform and is aimed at row crop producers. According to FMC, Sofero Fall introduces a mating disruption mode of action that interferes with the pest’s reproductive cycle, limiting future infestations. The sprayable formulation uses proprietary microencapsulation technology to extend stability and performance in field conditions. It is intended for use early in the growing season to prevent pest population buildup. “Fall armyworm has developed resistance to many traditional insecticides, and growers are seeking alternative solutions,” said Ronaldo Pereira, president of FMC. “Sofero Fall offers a sustainable option to strengthen integrated pest management programs.” The product is designed for use in corn, soybeans, rice and cotton, and is part of a broader portfolio of pheromone-based products that FMC plans to roll out under the Sofero brand. The company said these solutions will be positioned to complement both synthetic and biological treatments, as well as precision agriculture tools. Registration for a second product in the Sofero line, Sofero Frugi—also targeting fall armyworm—is under review in Mexico, with potential approval expected in 2027.
